Post-Doctoral Fellowship is available at CICECO Aveiro Institute of Materials
A post-doctoral research grant is available for scientists who currently hold a Doctoral degree in Science or Engineering disciplines within the framework of project entitled Development of novel organic ferroelectric single crystals by solution growth / Aveiro Institute of Materials, CICECO – CTM/50011 (POCI-01-0145-FEDER-007679) financed by national funds through FCT/MCTES (PIDDAC) and, when applicable, co-financed by FEDER under the PT2020 Partnership Agreement.

Admission requirements:

The applicant should have a PhD degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering acquired less than 2 years ago. Experience in the growth of ferroelectric organic single crystals and publications in this area.

Activity Outline:

The candidate is supposed to work on the synthesis and characterization of novel organic ferroelectrics based on metal-organic networks and other supramolecular systems. Various functional properties are to be tested including dielectric response, pyroelectricity, ferroelectricity, piezoelectricity, and photovoltaic effect. Chemical modification is to be done to use these crystals in biomedical applications.


Legislation and regulations: The fellowship is in accordance with Law Nº. 40/2004, 18th August (Research Fellow Statute) and regulations for Advanced Training of Human Resources of Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT) I.P. — no. 234/2012, no. 326/2013 and no. 339/2015 ( and the Regulation of Scientific Research Grants from the University of Aveiro – Regulation n.º 341/2011, published in Diário da República, 2nd series, n.º 98, Maio, 20th.


Workplace: The work will be carried out at CICECO – Aveiro Institute of Materials, University of Aveiro, under the scientific supervision of Dr. Andrei Kholkine and Prof. Joao Rocha.


Duration and scope of activity: The fellowship will have duration until the end of the year 2018, eventually extendable to a maximum of 36 months, on an exclusivity basis and is expected to begin in April, 2018.


Value of monthly maintenance allowance: 1495,00 Euros/month (tax free) according to the official table for Research Grants from FCT (, to be paid monthly via bank transfer.

Evaluation Criteria and Process: The evaluation criteria are:

I) Qualification to carry out scientific work including knowledge of methods of preparation of materials and characterization techniques (50%);

Ii) Quality and number of publications (30%).

Iii) Absolute merit of the curriculum vitae (20%);

If the jury considers indispensable, interviewa with the candidates may be held


The final results of the evaluation will be communicated by public presentation on CICECO, and the selected candidate will be notified by e-mail.
