Voz Nua on concert in support of ACAPO, Aveiro
A maestrina Aoife Hiney, doutoranda em Música na UA
Voz Nua will be on stage on the 29th November in a fund-raising concert in support of the Aveiro delegation of the Associação dos Cegos e Amblíopes de Portugal (ACAPO) (Portuguese Association of the Blind and Partially Sighted People ). Born at the Department of Communication and Art of the University of Aveiro, the Mixed Chamber choir, directed by Aoife Hiney, PhD student in Music at the University of Aveiro, will perform at the Sé de Aveiro at 16h00, accompanied by organ player Marília Canhoto.

Voz Nua is an heterogeneous group gathering singers from six different nationalities living in Aveiro. The name, a combination of Portuguese and Gaelic languages, represents the cultural diversity of the group. In Gaelic, the word ‘nua’ means new, fresh and pure. In Portuguese, the same word means naked.

With eight years of existence and around 300 associates, among people with visual handicap (effective) and without visual handicap (co-operators), the Aveiro delegation of ACAPO has the purpose to get facilities in Aveiro and to build a multidisciplinary team that may respond to the needs of blind people as well as those with low sight, promoting a close work with greater efficiency.

This delegation receives regularly contacts from schools (Special Education teachers) who ask for collaboration on braille as well as on Orientation and Mobility. However, as this delegation does not have facilities in Aveiro and does not have human and material resources, associates have to address themselves to other delegations (Porto e Coimbra).
