From August 31 to September 4 in the Cultural and Congress Centre of Aveiro
UA welcomes the 14th Deep-Sea Biology Symposium
mar
The 14th Deep-Sea Biology Symposium will gather more than 400 scientists from all over the world around Earth’s greatest ecosystem, the bottom of the sea. Organised by the University of Aveiro (UA), the meeting intends to approach the most emerging themes related to the seabed. Environmental disturbance of the deep sea associated to exploitation of biotic resources, such as trawl fishing, exploitation of minerals, oil and gas, and governance issues, management of protected marine areas and ecosystem conservation are some of the topics focused from August 31 to September 4 in the Cultural and Congress Centre of Aveiro (Centro Cultural e de Congressos de Aveiro).

Since its first edition, in 1977, symposia have been invaluable fora for the exchange of information about the most recent deep-sea explorations and scientific advances. Furthermore, symposia “have also been sources of cooperation and creation of new research groups and projects”, reminds the organisation headed by the Department of Biology of the UA.

All information about the 14th Deep-Sea Biology Symposium can be obtained here.
