Ilídio Pinho receives Honoris Causa Doctorate from the University of Aveiro

The University of Aveiro (UA) is attributing an Honoris Causa Doctorate to Ilídio Pinho, the prominent businessman, on October the 16th, at the ceremony of the official opening day of the academic year. Ilídio Pinho is a member of the UA Board of Trustees and has had a remarkable career in the national and international business world, as well as outstanding involvement in associations and the world of municipal governance.

The UA is ranked among the top three per cent of the best universities in the world

The University of Aveiro is among the 3% best universities in the world and among the top five national universities in the 2019-2020 list of the Center for World University Rankings (CWUR). Made public in early August, the world's most global ranking is led by the North American University of Harvard and is based on indicators related to the quality of teaching, employment, academic staff and research.

Innovative model of higher education with EU-approved funding

The University of Aveiro is going to be a ECIU European University

In a three-year pilot project, the European Consortium of Innovative Universities (ECIU), of which the University of Aveiro (UA) is part, will pioneer a model of innovative higher education on a European scale. The proposal for the creation of the European University, presented on 28th February by the ECIU, received the green light from the European Commission on the 26th June. This project aims to change the paradigm of higher education and will be officially launched in November.

Onésimo Teotónio Almeida wins the Mariano Gago Prize 2019

Onésimo Teotónio Almeida, Honorary Doctor of University of Aveiro, is the winner of the Mariano Gago Prize 2019 with his book 'O século dos prodígios'. This prize, which is awarded by the Portuguese Society of Authors, distinguishes the best Portuguese book of scientific dissemination published in the previous year.

The call for papers is open until June 30, 2019.

International Conference "Treacherous words: fake news, censorship and the unsayable"

The Languages, Literatures and Cultures Centre is organizing the International Conference "Treacherous words: fake news, censorship and the unsayable". The event will take place on October 23-25, 2019, in the Department of Languages and Cultures of the University of Aveiro, and welcomes proposals in topics such as cultural studies, literary studies and translation.
