Research Grant – BIM/Nº 1099/2018 – MCTechs
A research position for one Research Grant (“Bolsa de Investigação“) is opened at Instituto de Telecomunicações, in the scope of the Project MCTechs (Multicore fibers technologies for high-capacity Optical Networks), reference POCI-01-0145-FEDER-029282, supported by the European Regional Development Fund (FEDER), through the Competitiveness and Internationalization Operational Programme (COMPETE 2020) of the Portugal 2020 framework, and funded by Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT) through national funds. The work for this position is in the area of devices for Multicore Space Division Multiplexing (SDM).

Scientific Area: Optical Communications

Group: Optical Communications and Photonics – Av

Admission Requirements: Master degree on Physics Engineering, Physics, Telecommunications Engineering, Electrical Engineering or equivalent. Background and experience in Optical Fiber Communications and proficiency in modeling and simulation will be valued. The candidate should also demonstrate self-motivation for scientific research

Work Objectives: Design, production and characterization of LPG-based multicore couplers and switches for SDM systems.

Applicable legislation: A fellowship will be celebrated according to the regulations defined by FCT, “Regulation of Instituto de Telecomunicações’ fellowships” and ” Grants Regulation of Research Foundation for Science and Technology, I.P. into force”, according to Law no. 40/2004, dated August 18 (Status of Scientific Research Fellow), as amended and republished by Decree-Law No.202/2012 of August 27, and as amended by Decree-Law No.233/2012 of October 29 and by Law No.12/2013 of January 29, and Decree-Law No. 89/2013 of July 9, and also by Fundação para Ciência e Tecnologia, I.P. Place of work: The work will be developed at the premises of Instituto de Telecomunicações at Aveiro, under the scientific supervision of Ana Maria Rocha.

Duration: 6 months, with the possibility of renewal till 24 months. Start date: Ocotber 2018 or soon thereafter.

Monthly salary: 980€ (net), according to the table of grant amounts awarded directly by FCT for positions held in Portugal (http://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/valores). The payment will be made by bank transfer.

Selection criteria:  Curriculum vitae/Academic evaluation (30%).

Suitability of the candidates’ profile to the project based on admission requirements and relevant work experience in the tasks described in the work plan (30%).

Interview of the candidate (40%).
