CALL FOR POSTDOCTORAL POSITION

 

One post-doctoral fellowship (research group on Public Policy Institutions Innovation – PI2) is available at the Research Unit on Governance, Competitiveness and Public Policies (GOVCOPP) - CPO/04058, of the University of Aveiro, Portugal, financed by FCT/MEC, through national funds and when applicable co-financed by FEDER under the PT2020.

 

Scientific Areas: Public Policy; Political Science; Urban and Regional Planning; Public Administration; related fields.

 

Admission requirements

1. The candidate must have a PhD either in Public Policy, Political Science, Urban and Regional Planning, Public Administration or in related fields. Candidates with PhDs in other fields will be admitted if they demonstrate a solid research record in the above mentioned scientific areas.

2. Candidates who have not yet completed their PhDs will be admitted if their Ph.D. degree is received before the beginning of the fellowship.

3. The candidate must meet a minimum standard of scientific production in the last 5 years, measured by fulfilling one of the following sets of productivity indicators:

a. 4 publications in international scientific journals with peer review, indexed to SCOPUS or ISI;

b. 6 publications, including at least 2 publications in international scientific journals with peer review, indexed to SCOPUS or ISI, and being the other ones either, books, edition of special journal issues, collections of essays, chapters in edited books or international conference proceedings;

4. For researchers who concluded their Ph.D. after 1st January 2011, the minimum output is reduced to two publications, one of which must be in an international scientific journal with peer review, indexed to SCOPUS or ISI, and the other any type of publication referred to in 3.b, including the Ph.D. thesis.

5. The candidate must demonstrate an excellent command of reading, listening, speaking and writing in English, at least at C1 level in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. Preference will be given to candidates that also have an excellent command of Portuguese (at least at C1 level).

 

Job description: The postdoctoral fellow is expected to contribute significantly to the overall goals and objectives of the GOVCOPP and to the specific goals of the PI2 research group, as expressed in the Research Unit’s strategic plan.

 

In particular, the postdoctoral fellow is expected to:

  1. Significantly contribute to the implementation of the “Region of the Future” strategic action subprogramme of the GOVCOPP.
  2. Promote technological spill-overs from research to policy-making, especially in the Centro Region.
  3. Assist the coordinator of the PI2 research group in the group’s coordination tasks.
  4. Significantly contribute to the funding and internationalization of the PI2 research group, helping identify relevant project calls (especially at international level) and actively promoting and supporting the process of application to these calls.
  5. Collaborate with members of the Research Unit, particularly of the PI2 research group, in the writing of high level publication outputs, especially articles for publication in peer-reviewed journals.
  6. The postdoctoral fellow may also be requested to collaborate with relevant graduate courses of the University of Aveiro.

Fellowships Regulation approved by Regulation 234/2012 of 25th of June, amended by Regulation 326/2013 of 27th of August 2013 in force ( www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/docs/RegulamentoBolsasFCT2015.pdf), and Regulation for Advanced Training and Qualification of Human Resources 2011 and the Scientific Research Fellowship Regulation of the University of Aveiro – Regulation No.341/2011, Diário da República, 2nd series, nº. 98, 20th of May.

 

Workplace: The work will be developed at the facilities of the Unit on Governance, Competitiveness and Public Policies, University of Aveiro, or at other locations relevant to the carrying out of the intended activities, according to work plans previously approved by the GOVCOPP Board.

 

Duration of the grant: This is an 11 month limited term non-tenure accruing position. The grant is due to start on 1st May 2017, renewable contingent on satisfactory performance and on funding availability.

 

Monthly allowance: The amount of the grant corresponds to 1495 € per month plus social security according to the scholarships value table of FCT, I.P. in the country (www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/valores), with payments made monthly by check or bank transfer. The stipend value is free from taxation.

Methods of selection: The evaluation criteria and methods shall be as follows, with a maximum of 100 points:

  1. Adequacy of the academic profile to GOVCOPP and research group Public Policy Institutions Innovation (PI2) ) goals and strategic guidelines (maximum of 30 points)
  2. Publication record (maximum of 25 points)
  3. Research project (maximum of 15 points)
  4. Experience in submitting project proposals in national and international calls (maximum of 10 points)
  5. Experience in promoting technological spill-overs from research to policy-making (maximum of 10 points)
  6. References (maximum of 10 points)

The Jury will additionally select a maximum of three applicants, with the highest awarded points, for an interview, which may be carried out via a video-conferencing platform. This interview will grant the selected applicants with extra points (maximum: 100).

 

The Jury reserves the right to consider the applications to be below the desirable quality levels, and suggest closing this call without any selected applicant.

Form of advertising/notification of results: The final evaluation results will be publicized through an alphabetical list, which will be posted in a visible and public place of GOVCOPP, being the applicants notified by email.

Deadlines: This call for applications is open from 10th to 24th March 2017.

d. A sample copy of the candidate’s research (e.g. a journal article or other publication).
