University of Aveiro hosts conference about quality tourism
Rural and Nature Tourism in Portugal
How to provide quality tourist experiences with competitive and sustainable products is one of the questions that will be answered by Elisabeth Kastenholz, associated professor in the UA’s Department of Economy, Management and Industrial Engineering, on March 22nd, at 4p.m., in conference room 23.1.7 (Complexo Pedagógico).

Organized and moderated by Elisabeth Kastenholz, professor and director of the degree in Tourism Management and Planning and integrated in the Intensive Program European Wilderness Entrepreneurship - Western Iberia, the conference Rural and Nature Tourism in Portugal will approach the nature of the tourist experience in a rural context, focusing on the tourists’ point of view.

The conference will have the participation of several experts within the area, who will share their knowledge and experiences in what concerns the sustainable development of rural tourism’s economic and social structure.

About the lecturers:

Paulo Lopes - Portugal Green Walks

Owner of Portugal Green Walks (tour operator), with deep knowledge of Northern Portugal and very good relationships in the tourism sector. “I believe that we can offer creative and innovative products linked to the local culture and nature with the objective of making visitors aware of the richness of the landscape, heritage, gastronomy and traditions of this region.”

Francisco Calheiros - ADRIL

President of ADRIL (Rural Development Association of the Lima Valley), President of the national Rural Tourism and Manor House Association TURIHAB and of the larger Europa Traditional Consortium, with vast experience in creating, developing and leading associations, also working intensely with local, regional, national e international entities.

Rui Simão - ADXTUR

Head of ADXTUR (Agency for Tourism Development of the Schist Villages). The network of Schist Villages integrates 27 villages (traditional village architecture has been recovered) in a large territory of Central Portugal, of particular scenic and natural beauty. The main objectives of the program are: improvement of the quality of life of village populations, through a participative re-qualification and sustainable development of their economic and social structure.
