A call is open for recruitment of one researcher to collaborate in the project “RUNNING away from prostate cancer: WALKING through the molecular basis of physical activity”, funded by the European Investment Funds by FEDER/COMPETE/POCI-Operacional Competitiveness and Internacionalization Programme, under Project POCI-01-0145-FEDER-016728 and National Funds by FCT-Portuguese Foundation of Science and Technology, under the project PTDC/DTP-DES/6077/2014.

Research Area: Diagnosis, Therapeutics and Public Health-Physiology of Exercise and Sports Sciences

Candidate profile: The candidate should preferably hold a BSc and MSc in Biomedical Sciences, Biochemistry, Biology or related areas with a minimum mean grade of 15 [(BSc grade + MSc grade) / 2]. The candidate should have background in the field of prostate cancer. Experience in cell and molecular biology techniques (immunoblot and immunohistochemistry techniques) and previous experience in proteomic analysis is required. The candidate should also have autonomy in laboratory work, data analysis with bioinformatics and statistical tools and good communication skills, particularly writing in English.

Workplan: The main goal of the study is to evaluate the potential preventive effect of exercise training in prostate cancer rat models and the underling molecular events of such effects. For this, the researcher will analyze and validate proteomic data from prostate samples from the rat model implemented at the University of Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro.

Place of work: The work will be carried out at the Institute for Biomedicine, University of Aveiro, under the supervision of Professor Margarida Fardilha and Professor Rita Ferreira (QOPNA, University of Aveiro).

Duration of fellowships: The fellowship is for 3 months, starting on October.

Monthly allowance: The monthly allowance is €989,70, according to the regulations of FCT (http://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/valores) and will be paid every month through bank transfer, check or other equivalent way.

 

Selection method: Candidates CV, one recommendation letter and a motivation letter will be evaluated. Evaluation of the curriculum, focused on academic profile, training and experience in the area and techniques for interest will have a weight of 70%, motivation letter will have a weight of 15% and the recommendation letter 15%.
