A call is open for recruitment of one researcher to collaborate in the project “Regulation of translation: a new player in dendritic cell biology during aging”, with the reference POCI-01-0145-FEDER-030882, funded national funds via FCT/MCTES and co-financed by the Fundo Europeu de Desenvolvimento Regional (FEDER) via COMPETE2020 - POCI (Programa Operacional Competitividade e Internacionalização.

Research Area: Biological Sciences - Immunology

Candidate profile: The candidate should preferably hold a BSc in Biomedical Sciences or related areas and an MSc in the same area with a minimum average grade of 16. The candidate should also have experience in laboratory work and good knowledge of English.

Workplan: The goal of the project is to define the molecular mechanisms allowing the induction and the functional activation of the innate immune response. We will focus on the crosstalk between autophagy, protein synthesis and oxidative stress during inflammation and autoimmunity. Regulation of cytokine production under stress conditions will be a main question of study using advanced Cell, Molecular and Immunobiology techniques.

Place of work: The work will be carried out at the Institute for Biomedicine, University of Aveiro, under the supervision of Professor Philippe Pierre and PhD Catarina Almeida, in the frame of the joint international laboratory between the University of Aveiro and CNRS, France.

Duration of fellowships: The fellowship is for 12 months, eventually renewable for an extra year, and possibly starting on July 2019.

Monthly allowance: The monthly allowance is €989,70, according to the regulations of FCT ( and will be paid every month through bank transfer, check or other equivalent way.

Selection method: Candidates CVs and motivation letters will be evaluated to select up to 4 candidates for interview. Evaluation of the curriculum, focused on academic profile, training and experience in the area and techniques of interest, will have a weight of 50% and the interview another 50%. Candidates will be scored between 0 and 5 and must have a minimum overall score of 3.3.
