Posdoctoral Scholarship – REF. 11/19
There is an open application for two postdoctoral fellowships under the SOCA R&D project - Smart Open Campus (Ref. CENTRO-01-0145-FEDER-000010), funded by Fundo Europeu de Desenvolvimento Regional – FEDER under the new partnership agreement PT2020, under the following conditions:

Scientific Area: Electrotechnical Engineering, Telecommunications, Informatics, or related area.

Admission requirements: Candidates must hold a PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, and areas normally designated as Eng. Electronics, Telecommunications, Telematics, Physics among others, with relevant background in Communication Systems.

Work plan: The scholarship holders should contribute, within the framework of the SOCA (Smart Open Campus) project, to the development of a communication infrastructure for the project.

The development should be aligned with the technological trends of the fifth generation (5G) radio systems and integrated with the ORCIP ("Optical Radio Convergence Infrastructure for Communications and Power Delivering") research infrastructure. Within this grant, the work program, according to the selected candidate background can be one of the following

  • Research, definition and implementation of efficient concepts to integrate multiple radio technologies (personal communications and M2M etc) in ORCIP infrastructure.
  • Use of Open Air Interface (OAI) and Software Defined Radio (SDR) technology at ORCIP for advanced wireless communications, from 4G, to 5G and beyond.
  • Implementation in FPGA of Software Defined Modules based on 5G and beyond radio technologies.
  • Research and development of remote access functionalities of the infrastructure.

Duration of the scholarship: This scholarship is for 9 months (with the possibility of being renewed). To start preferentially before end of June 2019.

Scholarship value: The net scholarship value is 1509.08 euros per month, paid by cheque or bank transfer.

The evaluation and selection criteria: The academic and professional profile(s) of the applicant(s) will be considered on an individual basis regarding their suitability to the position. The evaluation criteria to be used will be the following:

  • Final mark in the BSc+MSc+PhD weights 40%.
  • Quality of the CV and its suitability to this project weights 60%.

If deemed necessary, the applicants will be called in for interviews for the evaluation of the second criteria leading to the following evaluation criteria:

  • Final mark in the BSc+MSc+PhD weights 40%.
  • Quality of the CV and its suitability to this project weights 30%.
  • Interview weights 30%.

The University of Aveiro will be free to select the candidates to fill the positions and reserves the right not to do so regardless of the results achieved in this call. This posdoctoral scholarship is granted according to the Regulamento de Bolsas de Investigação Científica da Universidade de Aveiro – Regulamento n.º 341/2011, published in Diário da República, 2ª série, n.º 98, May 20, 2011, and the Estatuto de Bolseiro de Investigação Científica, Law n.º 40/2004, August 18, 2004.
