Postdoctoral fellowship in the area of Chemical Engineering / Chemistry / and related.
A post-doctorate grant is available for scientists who currently hold a PhD in Science or Engineering disciplines within the framework of Project “INPACTUS – Innovative Products and Technologies from Eucalyptus Wood”, project number 21874 (POCI-01-0247-FEDER-021874), financed by European funds through the Fundo Europeu de Desenvolvimento Regional by FEDER under the PT2020 Partnership Agreement, under the following conditions:

Research field: Chemical Engineering, Chemistry and related fields

Admission requirements:

PhD in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry and related fields

Preferential requirements:

-Research experience in the field of pulp and paper and in natural polymers.

- Basic knowledge of the chemistry of kraft cooking and bleaching of cellulosic pulps, as well as paper chemistry

- Good interpersonal relationship, ability to communicate, team spirit and proactive action.

Activity Outline:

• To evaluate the potential of E. globulus bleached kraft pulps for applications requiring high absorption capacity and softness and to establish the manufacturing process variables of pulps affecting the absorption and softness properties; to perform a comparative analysis of the tissue paper potential of E. globulus and other competing pulps.

• To select the most advantageous additives, capable of inducing better absorption, softness, without prejudice to the mechanical properties;

• Evaluate the impact of different formulations of additives on the properties of softness, absorption, and mechanical properties of tissue paper, according to norms commonly used in the paper industry, development of an optimal formulation capable of producing positive results in the three properties already mentioned.

• Determine efficient methodologies for the quantification and analysis of the type of interactions established between the additives and the fibers.

• Evaluate the costs of modifying the folders with the proposed solutions.
