Admission requirements: Applicants should hold a M.Sc. degree in Public Policies, Environmental Policies and Management or equivalent qualification, with a minimum grade point average of 14 (on a 20-point scale). Preference will be given to candidates with an interest in pursuing doctoral studies.

Essential selection criteria:

Preference will be given to masters with research experience in the thematic areas of the program (integrated water resources management, circular economy)

Knowledge on co-creation processes, institutional analysis and development, focus groups approaches )

Knowledge and experience with quantitative and qualitative methods as well as case studies;

Excellent teamwork skills, communication skills, planning and organizational skills, and spirit of initiative and pro-activeness;

Demonstrated enthusiasm, high personal professional standards, independence, motivation and commitment to the research project;

Excellent oral and written English skills;

Availability to start working immediately.

Job description: The purpose of the fellowship is the development of research activities regarding the design a process of co-creation process with relevant stakeholders of innovative planning and governance steps to facilitate the implementation of the integration of water circular economy approaches by proposing pathways to reduce barriers and to foster systemic eco-innovative approaches for water circular economy. The work program, in accordance with the terms of the project, will develop research on the following steps: (i) Identification and analysis of the relevant institutions, stakeholders and communities in each site’s water circular economy, especially at the level of river basin and local level and developing using the Institutional Analysis and Development Framework approach; (ii) assessment of  the existing blockages for innovative local governance; (iii) the selection of the most suitable co-creation approach and the establishment of a framework to be implemented on the defined demo sites; (iv) formulation of a script for a training workshop for partners responsible for the other demo sites; v) results assessment and integration. The methodological framework will be based on workshops with stakeholders and other methods such as focus groups, Delphi method or Mutual Learning Workshops. The work implies (i) to provide programming, literature review, document and data analysis (ii) the production of reports, articles and other scientific publications (iii) the organization of and participation in meetings, workshops, seminars and/or conferences, (iv) the contribution to the expected results of the Project Ô; and (iv) to perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned. 

Legislation framework: A fellowship contract will be celebrated according to the regulations defined by FCT “Regulations for Advanced Training and Qualification of Human Resources”, in accordance with Portuguese Law 40/2004, of 18 August (Scientific Research Fellow Statute), as amended and republished by Decree-Law No. 202/2012 of 27 August, and as amended by Decree-Law No. 233/2012 of 29 October and by Law No. 12/2013, of January 29, and Decree-Law No. 89/2013 of 9 July as well as in accordance with the FCT, I.P. Fellowships Regulation, in force (https://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/docs/RegulamentoBolsasFCT2018.pdf) and UAVR’s Regulation of Scientific Research Grants, as approved on 20 May 2011.

Working place and Scientific supervision: The work will be carried out at the Centre for Environmental and Marine Studies (CESAM) and Governance, Competitiveness and Public Policies (GOVCOPP) – Department of Environment and Planning (DAO) of the University of Aveiro (UAVR), under the scientific supervision Prof. Dr. Teresa Fidélis, Prof. Dr. Filipe Teles and Dr. Peter Roebeling

Grant duration: The grant will be for a period of 12 months, and it is expected to start in October 2018. The attribution of the grant is undertaken under an exclusive dedication regime [i], and may be renewed successively until a maximum period of 36 months.

Monthly allowance: The monthly amount of the grant is 980€ in accordance with the values stipulated by the “Regulations for Advanced Training and Qualification of FCT (http://alfa.fct.mctes.pt/apoios/bolsas/valores). The fellowship holder will have a personal accident insurance and, if not covered by any social protection scheme, can ensure the right to social security through adherence to the voluntary social insurance scheme, pursuant to “Código dos Regimes Contributivos do Sistema Previdencial de Segurança Social”. The monthly amount shall be rendered payable via bank transfer to an account held by the grantee or another equivalent method.

Selection method: Candidates will be assessed based on their CV, aptitude and motivation (first stage of evaluation), including the relevance of their previous modelling, research and project experience (50%), reports and publications (35%) and cover letter (15%). The Selection Committee may decide on the need to have an interview (second stage of evaluation), in person or by tele-/videoconference. In that case, the final classification will be obtained by averaging the result of the first stage (50% weight) and second stage (50% weight) evaluations. The Selection Committee reserves the right not to select any candidate if none of the candidates possesses minimal requirements (final total classification higher than 50%).
