Pos-Doc Grant in Physics Engineering or related areas
A research grant is available for scientists who currently hold a PhD degree in Physics Engineering or related areas within the framework of NANOHEATCONTROL - POCI-01-0145-FEDER-031469)”, at CICECO – Aveiro Institute of Materials (Univeristy of Aveiro),Portugal, financed by Programa Operacional Competitividade e Internacionalização (FEDER) and Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia.

Research field: Physics Engineering (and related areas)

Admission requirements: Prospective applications should hold a PhD degree in Physics Engineering or related areas and experience in materials optical characterization.

Activity Outline: The main aim of this grant is the characterizations of lanthanide ions-doped inorganic nanocrystals (nanoparticles, nanorods and nanospheres) and plasmonic nanostructures (Au nanorods and nanospheres) by optical spectroscopies, such as photoluminescence (in steady-state and time-resolved modes), UV/Vis absorption, measurements of the emission quantum yield and emission flux using integrating spheres and computation of the light-to-heat conversion efficiency. This grant also aims at the fabrication and characterization of efficient heating-sensing nanoplatforms for hyperthermia and bioimaging applications. The development of an experimental set-up for the time-dependent optical measurements will be also adressed.

Legislation and regulations: The fellowship is in accordance with Law Nº. 40/2004, 18th August (Research Fellow Statute) and regulations for Advanced Training of Human Resources of Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT) I.P. — nº 234/2012, nº 326/2013, nº 339/2015 and nº 137-A/2018 (http://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/regulamento.phtml.pt) and the Regulation of Scientific Research Grants from the University of Aveiro – Regulation n.º 341/2011, published in Diário da República, 2nd series, n.º 98, 20th May.

Workplace: The work will be carried out at CICECO – Aveiro Institute of Materials, University of Aveiro, under the scientific supervision of Doctor Mengistie Debasu, Professor Doutor Luís Carlos and Professor Doutor Maria Rute André.

Duration and scope of activity: The fellowship will have a duration of 12 months on an exclusivity basis, and is expected to begin in December of 2019.

Value of monthly maintenance allowance: 1495 € Euros/month (tax free) according to the official table for Research Grants from FCT - http://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/valores, to be paid monthly via bank transfer.

Evaluation Criteria and Process: The evaluation criteria are: Relevant curricular experience to perform of the workplan and knowledge on optical and optoeletronic instrumentation (50 points). If necessary, an interview will be placed on the three better-classified candidates (50 points). The results of the evaluation will be communicated by an ordinated list published in a public local on CICECO, and the selected candidate will be notified by e-mail.

Jury: The Jury responsible for the evaluation process is composed by: Professores Doutores Luís Dias Carlos and Maria Rute Ferreira André, and Doutor Mengistie Debasu.

Documents Required: The application must contain the following documents:

i) Curriculum Vitae, dated and signed, including a description of previous activities in scientific projects; ii) copy of ID card or passport; iii) Academic degree certificate(s).certificate; iv) other relevant documents

Applications should be sent by email to Professor Doutor Maria Rute Ferreira André, Departamento de Física, Universidade de Aveiro, 3810-193 Aveiro; rferreira@ua.pt.
