A call is open for recruitment of one researcher to collaborate in the project “Proteomics strategies targeting biomedical applications”, funded by European Investment Funds by FEDER/COMPETE/POCI– Operacional Competitiveness and Internacionalization Programme, under Project IF/00286/2015 and National Funds by FCT - Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology

Research Area: Health Sciences -   Biotechnology for Health

Candidate profil: The candidate should hold a BSc in Biochemistry and a solid background and experience in biochemistry, cell biology and physiology (emphasis on ELISA, enzymatic assays and immunoblot techniques). The candidate should also have experience in ‘omics’ technologies (particularly mass spectrometry-based proteomics) and bioinformatics tools for the analysis of proteomic data.

Workplan: The main goal of the study is to evaluate the proteome of biofluids for the characterization and identification of putative biomarkers of diseases such as head-and-neck cancer and cardiovascular diseases. For this, the researcher will analyze biological samples such as urine and blood-derived fluids that will be collected at hospitals from Porto. The analyses to be performed include LC-MS/MS, SDS-PAGE, zymography and immunoblots of biofluids and data analysis with bioinformatics tools such as Cytoscape.

Fellowships are regulated by current laws: Law nº. 40/2004, 18 of August (“Estatuto do Bolseiro de Investigação Científica”); Regulamento de Bolsas de Investigação da FCT, I. P. approved by Regulamento nº 339/2015, 17 June 2015 (http://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/docs/RegulamentoBolsasFCT2015.pdf); and Regulamento de Bolsas de Investigação Científica da Universidade de Aveiro – Regulamento n.º 341/2011, published in Diário da República, 2ª série, n.º 98, 20 May.

Place of work: The work will be carried out at the Institute for Biomedicine, University of Aveiro, under the supervision of Professor Rui Vitorino.

Duration of fellowships: The fellowship is for 6 months, starting in October 2018.

Monthly allowance: The monthly allowance is 745€, according to the regulations of FCT (http://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/valores) and will be paid every month through bank transfer, check or other equivalent way.

Selection method: Candidates’ CVs, two recommendation letters and motivation letter will be evaluated to select up to 5 candidates for interview. Evaluation of the curriculum, focused on academic profile, training and experience in the area and techniques of interest and motivation letter will have a weight of 50%, recommendation letters 20% and the interview 30%.

Selection Committee: President: Rui Vitorino, Principal Investigator, University of Aveiro; Vogais: Rita Ferreira, Assistant Professor, University of Aveiro; João Pinto da Costa, Postdoc fellowship, University of Aveiro.

Notification of results: Candidates will be ordered according to their final evaluation and notified of the final results by email up to 30 week days after the call deadline.
