PhD grant in Materials Engineering, Chemical Engineering and related areas
The University of Aveiro opens a call, until 31 of May, for one PhD grant in the framework of a partnership with The Navigator Company, RAIZ- Institute of Forest and Paper Research and the project InPaCTus.

Scientific area: Materials Engineering, Chemical Engineering and related areas.

 

Work plan: This project aims to develop materials for structural (e.g. cements, mortars) and environmental (absorption of contaminants such as metals with environmental relevance and dyes, pH adjustment, etc.) applications incorporating ashes from biomass combustion in industrial furnaces. The work also includes the evaluation of the temporal variability of the ash characteristics, the influence of the process conditions on the ash composition, and the need of pretreatment operations and assessment of their effect.

 

Admission requirements: The candidate must have a MSc degree in Materials Engeneering, Chemical Engeneering or related scientific areas, and relevant experience in materials characterization and in the preparation and characterization of mortars and geopolimers.

 

Working place: The work will be carried out at the University of Aveiro, RAIZ and PCI- Science and Innovation Park and in the Doctoral program teaching place.

 

Grant duration: 12 months (and may be renewed successively), with starting planned for june 2018 .

 

Scientific supervision: Professors João António Labrincha Baptista, Luís António da Cruz Tarelho and Maria Paula da Silva Seabra.

 

Grant financial conditions: The value of the grant is 980 €, in agreement with the “Regulamento de Bolsas de Investigação Científica da Universidade de Aveiro – Regulamento n.º 341/2011, publicado em Diário da República, 2ª série, n.º 98, de 20 de Maio”. The fellowship will be paid monthly by check, bank transfer, or another equivalent method.

Selection method: CV analysis (70%) relevant experience for the proposed workplan (30%). To clarify specific aspects the 3 first candidates might be called for a personal interview. In that case the previous classification will account for 70 %, and the interview for 30%.
