Applications are open for the allocation of one research fellowship (master), under the project “Multifunctional all-oxide nanostructures for electronic applications”, Ref. IF/00602/2013/CP1162/CT0015, within the scope of CICECO - Aveiro Institute of Materials financed by national funds by FCT / MEC and where appropriate co-financed by the ERDF under the PT2020 Partnership Agreement.

Scientific field: Materials Science

Requirements: (i) MSc in field of materials physics, materials chemistry, materials science and engineering with strong experimental background and solid scientific strength; (ii) Scientific experience in single crystal and thin films preparation; (iii) Good English communication.

Purpose of Activity: To prepare and investigate magnetoelectric systems composed of ferroelectric substrates and ferromagnetic thin films, i.e., to grow the ferroelectric single crystals and deposit ferromagnetic films on them. The research proposal comprises also the determination of structural, microstructural, electric and magnetic properties of the prepared systems, and the evaluation of their magnetoelectric coupling.

Regulation: The fellowship is in accordance with Law Nº. 40/2004, 18th August (Research Fellow Statute) and regulations for Advanced Training of Human Resources of Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT) I.P. — 2013 ( and the Regulation of Scientific Research Grants from the University of Aveiro – Regulation n.º 341/2011, published in Diário da República, 2nd series, n.º 98, 20th Maio.

Place of work and Scientific Orientation: The work will be carried out at the Department of Materials and Ceramic Engineering, at the University of Aveiro. Research will be supervised by Dr. Oleksandr Tkach.

Duration of Activity: The fellowship has the duration of 8 months, scheduled to start in June 2018.

Remuneration: The value of the scholarship follows the Tables announced by FCT: 980€ per month ( The periodicity of the fellowship's payment is monthly and via bank transfer.

Criteria for evaluation of the candidates: Applications will be screened on the basis of: (i) Scientific Curriculum Vitae (55 points); (ii) Previous and confirmed experience in the scientific field of this application (45 points), in particular in graphene and perovskite oxides preparation, and their structural and electrical characterization; (iii) If the jury considers necessary, interviews with 2 best candidates may be held (with the previous criteria corresponding to 70% and the interview to 30%).

Jury: The panel responsible for selection will be composed of the following members: Oleksandr Tkach, Paula Maria Vilarinho, Maria Elisabete Costa.

Notification of results: The final evaluation results will be publicized through the ordered list by the final grade obtained, posted in a conspicuous and public place in CICECO and the candidate approved will be notified by email.

Opening date and deadline for applications: Applications must be submitted from 24th of March to 6th April 2018.
