Project: IgY Technology: A Purification Platform using Ionic-Liquid-Based Aqueous Biphasic Systems (IgYPurTech)

Job summary: to address the optimization and scale-up of purification techniques to purify immunoglobulin Y (IgY) from egg yolk, and evaluation of the IgY stability and activity after the recovery step.

 

Scientific field:  Biotechnology

 

Requirements: (i) Degree (Licenciatura) and MSc in Biotechnology or Biochemistry; (ii) Classification ≥ 17 (in a 0-20 scale) in the MSc degree; (iii) Confirmed experience in the purification of biopharmaceuticals; (iv) good English communication.

 

 

Regulation: The fellowship is in accordance with Law Nº. 40/2004, 18th  August  (Research Fellow Statute) and the Regulation of Scientific Research Grants from the University of Aveiro – Regulation n.º 341/2011, published in Diário da República, 2nd series, n.º 98, 20th May.

 

Place of work and Scientific Orientation: The work will be carried out at the Chemistry Department, CICECO, University of Aveiro, Portugal. All the research activities will be supervised by Dr. Mara G. Freire.

 

Duration of Activity: The fellowship has the duration of 11 months, scheduled to start in March 2018.

 

Components of the Fellowship: The value of the scholarship follows the Tables announced by FCT: 980 € per month (www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/valores). The periodicity of the fellowship's payment is monthly and via bank transfer.

 

Criteria for evaluation of the candidates: Applications will be screened on the basis of a maximum of 10 points: (i) Classification of the Degree (Licenciatura) and MSc held by the applicant (2 points); (ii) Scientific Curriculum Vitae (4 points); (iii)Experience in the development of purification techniques for biopharmaceuticals or other proteins (2 points); (iii) If the jury considers indispensable, interviews with the 3 best candidates may be held (2 points).

 

Jury:  The panel responsible for selection will be composed of the following members: Mara G. Freire, João A. P. Coutinho and Isabel Boal-Palheiros.

 

Notification of results: The final evaluation results will be publicized through the ordered list by the final grade obtained, posted in a conspicuous and public place in CICECO and the candidate approved will be notified by email.

 

Opening date and deadline for applications: Applications must be submitted from February 6th to February 16th, 2018.

 

Documents of application: The application must contain the following documents: (i) Motivation letter highlighting the interest on the project (including full contacts of the applicant); (ii) Detailed Curriculum Vitae; (iii) Copies of certificates or documents confirming the academic degrees/classifications; and (iv) Copies of published/submitted scientific manuscripts and presentations in scientific conferences.
