A third academic from the UA honoured with the title “distinguished lecturer”

Recently appointed Chair of Networld2020 European Technology Platform (ETP), Rui Aguiar has now been also appointed Distinguished Lecturer of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). Professor of the Department of Electronics, Telecommunications and Informatics of the University of Aveiro (DETI-UA) and researcher at the Telecommunications Institute (IT-Aveiro), Rui Aguiar is the third academic of the UA to be honoured by IEEE as “distinguished lecturer”.

After José Carlos Pedro ( and Nuno Borges de Carvalho (, both professors at the DETI and researchers at the IT-Aveiro, were appointed as “Distinguished Microwave Lecturer”, by the “Microwave Theory and Techniques Society” of IEEE, it was Rui Aguiar’s turn to be distinguished as “Distinguished Lecturer” by the Communications Society (ComSoc), part of this organization, which is the most important international organization in the field of electrical engineering.

Honoured by this distinction, Rui Aguiar explains that “it reflects international recognition from the world largest community of telecommunications professionals.”

A few weeks ago Rui Aguiar’s appointment had been announced as Chair of the Networld2020 European Technology Platform (ETP), European association dedicated to structuring research in the field of communication over the medium term, influencing national and international research programmes. Rui Aguiar is also coordinator of the Technological Platform Connected Communities/Smart Cities of the UA, one of the eight structures of the kind created at the UA to enhance links with business, local government and other entities in the areas of greatest relevance for the economic, social and cultural fabric of this region.
