José Carlos Pedro, professor at the Department of Electronics, Telecommunications and Informatics (DETI) and researcher at the Telecommunications Institute (IT) of the University of Aveiro (UA), was awarded with the 2016 prize Distinguished Educator Award from IEEE Microwave Theory and Techniques Society. The prize, awarded by the most important and representative world organization for the promotion of knowledge in the fields of electrical, electronics and computing engineering, awards José Carlos Pedro for his work as a professor and researcher in the area of Radio-Electricity.

The Distinguished Educator Award from IEEE (worth 2500 dollars) is the most important prize that the greatest world engineering organisation, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), awards a higher education professor for his qualities as teacher, mentor and an example to follow. This is the third time that IEEE awards José Carlos Pedro. In 2007 the researcher was elected IEEE Fellow Member and, in 2014, he was nominated by the same association as Distinguished Microwave Lecturer.
