Researchers at the DIGIMEDIA centre win ‘Best Paper Award’ in Ireland

The paper “Co-designing a Game-Based Learning Platform for Active Ageing: The Case of Jump” was awarded with best Paper Award, at the International Conference on Simulation and AI in Games GAME ON’2017, held at Institute of Technology Carlow in Ireland. From 6 to 8 of September, academics and industry practioners in Games were gathered to discuss such topics as Game Design Methodology, Game Design and Gamification, Artificial Intelligence in Games, Serious Gaming, Virtual Reality in Games and Game Characters.

Rui Aguiar appointed “Distinguished Lecturer” of the IEEE

Recently appointed Chair of Networld2020 European Technology Platform (ETP), Rui Aguiar has now been also appointed Distinguished Lecturer of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). Professor of the Department of Electronics, Telecommunications and Informatics of the University of Aveiro (DETI-UA) and researcher at the Telecommunications Institute (IT-Aveiro), Rui Aguiar is the third academic of the UA to be honoured by IEEE as “distinguished lecturer”.

Professor of the UA elected for the board of the European association of chemical societies

Artur Silva, professor at the Department of Chemistry of the University of Aveiro (UA) and president of the Portuguese Chemical Society, was elected to the Executive Board of the European Association for Chemical and Molecular Sciences (EuCheMS). This institution, operating since 1970, gathers the societies of chemistry and molecular sciences of each European country.

Scientist of the UA wins the European Union Prize for Women Innovators 2016

Susana Sargento, professor at the Departament of Electronics, Telecommunications and Informatics (DETI) and researcher at the Telecommunications Institute (IT) of the University of Aveiro (UA), has won the European Union Prize for Women Innovators 2016. Awarded by the European Commission with the purpose of recognizing women entrrepreneurs for having introduced innovative ideas into the market, the prize of 100 thousand euros has been announced on the 10th March, in Brussels. Susana Sargento, co-founder of Veniam, the startup responsible for the creation and management of the largest vehicular network in the World, was the first Portuguese woman among the nine finalists to the Prize.
